Day 5: Entertaining Children (Plus A Little Geocache News)

Most of today was spent at a one year old’s naming ceremony and birthday party. I had never attended a naming ceremony before outside of a religion – I have been to Christenings though. As a service, it was very nice and it was lovely to be part of Esmé Mary’s official name giving!

As a little nice way to celebrate Esmé’s fifth month on the Earth, her father created a geocache called Esmé’s Corner, at a favourite place where she likes to watch cars! We could think of no better way than to find and log this cache on the way to her ceremony and party. 713 in the bag…

Things I found out from the party:

  • Lego produce books based on their characters. The spot the difference pages within these are relatively tricky.
  • Pass the parcel has much potential to make children cry. It can also cause stress and anguish in adults who want everyone to be happy. There is nothing wrong with games where everyone doesn’t win. Even if you are young. Shiny paper makes everyone happy.
  • It’s no good placing name labels on things, you will still leave them behind. And if you should leave things behind, everyone will then know about it!

On a fairly unrelated note, although bubbles do entertain children, here is Stephen Fry from QI Series 10, Episode 11, creating what he calls a “square bubble”. You’d think someone with his intelligence would know a cube when he saw one. I can forgive that he didn’t call it a tesseract…
